A High?Resolution Paleosecular Variation Record for Marine Isotope Stage 6 From Southeastern Black Sea Sediments

چکیده

A full-vector paleosecular variation (PSV) record (inclination, declination, and relative paleointensity) from the pen-ultimate glacial (130–180 ka) could be constructed a total of 12 sediment cores recovered Arkhangelsky Ridge in SE Black Sea. Stacking individual partly fragmented records was achieved by detailed correlation using high-resolution data X-ray fluorescence scanning, Ca/Ti K/Ti log-ratios, as well magnetic susceptibility. Age constraints are provided composite oxygen isotope stratigraphy three cores, correlated to U-Th-dated speleothem Hungary Turkey. The temporal resolution stacked paleomagnetic is 200 years. Practically, this set first PSV for Europe/SW Asia marine stage 6, comprising inclination, declination paleointensity. Besides an easterly swing at ?159 ka pronounced intensity low together with inclinations ?148 ka, both not reaching excursional index >0.5, obtained directional variations reflect only normal PSVs, <0.3.

Aspects of carbon isotope biogeochemistry of late Quaternary sediments from the Marmara Sea and Black Sea

The Marmara Sea is situated between the world’s largest permanently anoxic basin, the Black Sea, and an enclosed marginal sea, the Aegean Sea, which experienced quasi-periodic sapropel deposition since Miocene time. It is connected to the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea through the Straits of Bosphorus and Dardanelles, respectively. Sapropel M1, which contains from 1 to 2% total organic carbon, wa...

High-resolution record of geomagnetic secular variation from Late Pleistocene Lake Lisan sediments (paleo Dead Sea)

We measured geomagnetic secular variation in Lake Lisan sediments (paleo Dead Sea). More than 1500 oriented samples were collected from a 27.3-m section of alternating aragonite and detritus laminae in the Dead Sea basin ranging in age from 67 to 32 ka. The natural remanent magnetization (NRM) is carried by titanomagnetite in the detrital laminae whereas the aragonite is diamagnetic. The NRM is...

Determining chondritic impactor size from the marine osmium isotope record.

Decreases in the seawater 187Os/188Os ratio caused by the impact of a chondritic meteorite are indicative of projectile size, if the soluble fraction of osmium carried by the impacting body is known. Resulting diameter estimates of the Late Eocene and Cretaceous/Paleogene projectiles are within 50% of independent estimates derived from iridium data, assuming total vaporization and dissolution o...

Dynamics of the Laschamp geomagnetic excursion from Black Sea sediments

Investigated sediment cores from the southeastern Black Sea provide a high-resolution record from mid latitudes of the Laschamp geomagnetic polarity excursion. Age constraints are provided by 16 AMS C ages, identification of the Campanian Ignimbrite tephra (39.2870.11 ka), and by detailed tuning of sedimentologic parameters of the Black Sea sediments to the oxygen isotope record from the Greenl...

U^Th dating of marine isotope stage 7 in Bahamas slope sediments

In order to understand the driving forces for Pleistocene climate change more fully we need to compare the timing of climate events with their possible forcing. In contrast to the last interglacial (marine isotope stage (MIS) 5) the timing of the penultimate interglacial (MIS 7) is poorly constrained. This study constrains its timing and structure by precise U^Th dating of high-resolution N18O ...
